United Way Miami’s UpSkill Miami initiative has emerged as Miami-Dade County’s leader in forward-thinking workforce solutions. Through United Way Miami’s innovative training-to-employment pipeline, the initiative upskills and reskills the local workforce by providing access to training, support, and career pathways in high-need industries.
After successful cohorts in healthcare, construction, aviation, education, and energy, UpSkill Miami is expanding into cybersecurity and AI careers to ensure students have access to state-of-the-art training to prepare them for well-paying careers. By connecting participants directly with training, coaching, and job placement, UpSkill Miami is creating pathways to sustainable economic mobility and helping individuals and families build a more secure future.
This program will directly impact the lives of 100 low-income students in Miami-Dade County who are looking to learn new skills, meet the needs of a growing job market, and provide economic opportunities for themselves and their families.

Impact
Before this I really didn’t know where I was going with my career at all. I was fresh out of high school; I didn’t go to college…because I really didn’t think it was for me. My plan was to go to the military if I didn’t have any other options, so without FPL or United Way and this opportunity, who knows where I would be.
Current Metrics
Over 2000 participants have enrolled in UpSkill Miami training since 2023
Over 80% of participants complete and graduate fro the program
Over 65% job placement rate after graduation
